Do's and Dont's if you come across a Stampede. Yes, a stampede.

17th Jan 2014 will go down my memory for a couple of reasons.

Firstly it was one of the biggest losses to our community and the world. His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin saheb passed away for his eternal journey. It was the biggest shock to the community and us all.

Secondly, I was a part of my first ever stampede. The desperation for a last glance of Moula, became a nightmare after crowding and chaos led to a stampede outside Saifee Mahal in Malabar Hill, killing 18 and injuring 60.

I was there through the chaos. Through the rough of it. Hundreds and thousands of them were there but unfortunately 18 could not survive the pressure, the storm, the intense fall and the crumbling.

I too tried to sustain the same, there were a few things I believe I did right to get out of it else it wouldn't have been possible either.

During a stampede:
  1. Do not panic. Do not panic. Do not panic.
  2. Stop shouting
  3. Keep your eyes open
  4. Keep breathing dont stop breathing
  5. Seek help who are standing
  6. If you hit the ground, get support from it and try to push yourself up
  7. If there is a person beneath you do not press him further
  8. Again do not panic if it all increases, remember that it aint gonna long for more than 10 minutes
  9. Loosen up
  10. Help others once you are out
I am no expert at this, however, these were few things I did and I believe it would help.

Share your experience if you were there or you've experience such an unfortunate event.
