Migration Again!

Seems that the Almighty didn’t wish we settle at one place that year. From Spicer Memorial to Badriyah High and now in Mumbai, we kept shifting schools one after the other and we finally landed at one of the most sub-standard schools one could attend (well, im talking about the standards back then in 1997) – Mumbra Public School.

My Nana (another feather to his cap) worked as an Accountant in the school. He had responsibilities of the Secretary and worked almost day in and day out to maintain the schools repute. When the great migration (from Pune to Mumbai) happened all of a sudden, we were already mid year and 2 schools shifted and it was difficult for us to get admissions to any standard schools. My Nana, got us admitted to the school and thankfully our year was saved.

This school was in short, funny. Firstly, it had only a few students (barely 10 each class as compared to more than 70 in our previous experience). It was a private school upto 8th Division only. It had some really horrible teachers (not visually but academically). Below Poor Level of education is what we experienced. Till date I believe what I had learnt in Spicer is what I’m able to apply.

This time we moved (again!), from the world of books into the real world. Yes, the real big bad world. Behaving like nomads released in a city everything was new to us. From tall skyscrapers to traveling in auto rickshaws to dealing with road side vendors to learning how to curse to kicking ass and making friends. We did it all.

When you move from ICSE to SSC board you seriously do not need to study for 2 years and still retain the best in class position. I remember a few names from this school and a few times we spent in this school that helped us be something what we are today.

To join the bandwagon my mom also joined the school as a teacher and the entire family could meet at school. It was a merry go round trip for a span of 6 months. I reminisce, since that year, 6th Division onwards I started fasting for the entire month of Ramzan. Till date the feat has never gone down.
