My 4-Wheeler Driving Licence Saga

It started off somewhere around in the month of September 2009, when my mother compelled me to join a Motor training school in order to learn car driving. Though driving was my childhood dream, my laziness always pulled me back. However, I managed to join a nearby Motor driving school and started my journey with wheels.

To be honest, it was a modest beginning, whereby I attended the training lectures religiously daily 6.00 AM for a week long period. Moving ahead, due to some religious reasons, I started bunking the training lectures. This continued for a month and half and my complete training schedule was a disaster. Sad to say that, I attended only 12 out of my 22 lectures in a period of 2 Months.

Finally, I decided not to attend any further lectures and learn at home. One day, my dad forced me for getting the learning license done. We both went to the R.T.O, and after a couple of hours and a computer test I managed to get my learning license. Believe me; the joy of getting my learning license was magnificent.

Once my learning license was done, it was bliss. We recruited a driver who would come and teach me daily in the morning at 6.00 AM. He was a good trainer. I trained for at least 5 days under his guidance and the confidence of driving crept in.
One fine evening, my dad encouraged me to drive him to Mumbai. Luckily, I was all charged up to do so and I agreed. From then till date I have been driving, learning a bit every time I drive.

The story seems to be quite cool so far, now let me show you the darker side to it.

My First Driving Exam for Permanent License:
With a couple of Mumbai - Pune roundabout trips under my belt, I was quite confident about passing the driving test to be conducted prior getting your permanent license. I with my dad went to the PCMC R.T.O someday in the month of January, 2010.
PCMC is known for its strict traffic and R.T.O regulations, hence the officer conducting the tests was ought to be strict, volatile, angry old guy. Yeah, thats how it was.

I chose Tata Sumo as my preferred vehicle to drive that day (MY BIGGEST MISTAKE). After a couple of candidates who successfully cleared the test, it was my turn to attend the examination.
The Police officer asked me my name and had a brief look at the application, I was carrying. He ordered me to start the car and take it ahead.
To my utter disappointment the car didn't start at the first shot. Shocked!!!!!
Yeah definitely, I was shocked and thrown out of the car for not being able to start the car. All my pride was washed away in a second.
On RCA'ing the situation, I understood that I pushed the car in its 3rd gear both the times instead of the first one. It was my sweet Indica, whose gear box is near to the driver and easier as compared to Tata Sumo, which caused this dilemma.

Now what!!! I begged the Motor Driving School head to schedule my appointment once again for the test and I would surely bring my Indica for the same.

Days and months passed by, however I couldnt get a chance to meetup with the tests. Eventually, just before Burhan's (my Elder Bro) marriage, I met with a chance to drive my office car i.e. Zen Estilo. WoW such a smoothie.... I decided to give my test on this car and this is how it happened.

Second Attempt for Driving Exam for Permanent License:
As my entire family was busy in preparing for Burhan's marriage, I planned for a visit to the R.T.O in our office car during the last week of April, 2010. I went in there and got the tests clear despite of some hurdles. Believe me the pattern of testing in India is not at all good, anyone can make it.
I was relieved that the car functioned appropriately as per the instructions and the officer cleared my papers for further processing. :)

I got my licence in a weeks time. You can have a look below :)
