It was an amazing, historic & wonderful weekend that passed by. Weekend that marked the 99th Birthday (Milad) of our beloved Moula, Dr. Syedna Mohd. Burhanudin Saheb! The entire Dawoodi Bohra clan celebrated and rejoiced this event. We all are thankful to our Dai-ul-Mutlaq for showering loads of blessings on us.
On Saturday (night before the birthday), we had processions happening at several locations in Pune and across the globe. I managed to attend the one happening at our Khadki Mosque. It was a very disciplined and organized event. The procession started immediately after the evening prayers at 7.30 PM. We started from the mosque and proceeded around the Khadki Bazaar (market) area.
The procession was divided in three phases, viz:
1. The Prayer Chanting Group.
2. The Orchestra, and finally;
3. THE Fireworks Group.
With my cousin brother, I managed to walk along all these groups, in which the third one was my favorite. They were actually having a blast with the fireworks. Hundreds of thousands of fire crackers, rockets, etc etc were ignited to glorify the event. Once the procession was over, all assembled back in the mosque, the local priest (Janab Saheb) recited sermons for an hour, there was a cake cutting ceremony and later on we headed towards dinner. It was a grand feast on Saturday night, with deep fried chicken, mango icecream, dabba gosht, and many other mouth watering delicacies. Post - dinner it was 11.00 PM and we finally headed back home. What a celebration! Wow! I enjoyed every bit of it.
Sunday was the BIG day. It was our Moula's 99th Milad Mubarak, and to grace this event, Moula himself invited all mumineen to gather across the globe, in order to view & listen to him live from Mumbai. The event was organized at 11.00 AM. Everybody at home got ready for the mega-event and we reached on schedule to witness Moula himself on stage in Mumbai telecasted live at Kasarwadi, Pune. The gathering continued till 3.00 Pm in the afternoon, followed by lunch. We returned home completely exhausted by the heat outside. It was a pleasure attending this session and I personally learned a lot.
In the end, I pray only one thing, Long-Live His Holiness, Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb.
Abde Syedna,
Younus Poonawala
